Newborn FAQs

  • Do you have a studio?

I’ve made the choice to focus on capturing the beauty of my families in their homes and having fun outdoors. To me, it feels much more special to be able to capture a moment in time in these environments, so I don’t have a studio.

  • How quickly can I get booked in?

This entirely depends on the type of booking you’re looking for and my current schedule. I would recommend getting in touch as far in advance before the required date as possible, particularly if you’re looking for a weekend session.

  • Where will my photoshoot take place?

I’m very flexible with locations, and travel up to 30 minutes from my home near Bishops Stortford is included within the cost. Anything further will incur a small travel fee, however this will be discussed on booking.

I don’t have a studio, so my photoshoots happen at home or outdoors depending on your preference and the time of year. It’s all about keeping things comfortable and personal. I’m happy to chat through options that suit your style.

  • I really don’t know how to pose for photos – help!

Honestly – do not worry! As my style of photography is pretty natural, a lot of the time you won’t even realise you’re ‘posing’.  I incorporate a lot of laughter and games into my shoots (especially the family shoots where there are younger children involved!) – the best results come from those in-between moments when you are unaware of the camera.  Some shots I will lightly direct you, and for these I wouldn’t expect you to know what to do! I’ll help you out every step of the way, so you can rest easy on this one.

  • Can I just get photos of my baby/children without being in them myself?

Yes you can, but I do strongly urge you to consider being in at least some of the photographs.  Think how precious these images will be to your children in decades time, maybe when you are no longer around.  To be able to see those who loved them at this moment in time, and the connection and love you shared will be something they will treasure forever.

These aren’t photos for you – they’re a future gift to your children.

  • Can I include my other children in my newborn photoshoot?

Of course!  I am passionate about recording images of the whole family – a new baby is such a special time for everyone, parents and siblings included.  I even encourage pets to get in the frame if possible!

  • How long after my baby is born should we have our newborn photoshoot?

I recommend anywhere between 5 and 14 days after birth for the shoot to take place, however the beauty of a lifestyle shoot is that going over that 14 day mark doesn’t really matter – you’ll still get beautiful photos!  It’s more important for a more traditional, posed newborn shoot that it takes place in that window, as then it’s easier for the photographer to achieve the poses that are expected. With a lifestyle approach, any age is great, but capturing the squishiness of the first few weeks is something that a lot of parents look for.

  • When should I book my newborn photo shoot?

I would recommend getting in touch to discuss your newborn photo shoot as soon as you can after your 20 week scan, especially if there are older school age siblings involved, meaning you’d probably need a weekend date.  I only offer a limited amount of weekend shoots throughout the year so the earlier you secure your date the better! My diary does fill up months in advance so it’s important to book in for your session as soon as you can. In saying that, if you’ve had your baby and only just decided you want a photoshoot, please do get in touch in case I have an empty slot or a cancellation that you could use!

  • What shall I wear for my photoshoot?

After you’ve confirmed your booking and your deposit has been paid, you will receive a Client Guide, which will give you lots of information about what happens from now on, including some guidance on outfit choices for your shoot.  I have a number of items available in my client closet which you are very welcome to wear, including dresses suitable for maternity, newborn and family shoots, in addition to some children’s clothing. It’s a good idea to think about what you are wearing far enough in advance in case you decide you’d like to purchase something specially for the shoot, and I’m really happy to give advice on your choices.  I encourage people to send me over a quick snap of what they’re thinking of wearing, and I’m happy to provide any styling advice if needed.

  • How long will the photoshoot take?

Maternity and family shoots generally last between 45 minutes and an hour.  A newborn session will be longer as we allow plenty of time for feeding, nappy changes etc., so we’d expect this usually to last between two and three hours.

Family FAQs

  • When’s the best time to have my maternity shoot?

The sweet spot is usually between 32 and 36 weeks – you’ve got a lovely bump, but hopefully still feel comfortable enough to move around and enjoy the session. That said, it’s never too early to get booked in!

  • Can my partner or older children be in the photos too?

Of course! These photos are about your journey into (or through) motherhood, and that often includes your nearest and dearest. We’ll keep the focus on you but capture some family moments too. And if you have any furbabies, they’re also more than welcome!

It’s easy! You can either send me a message via my contact form or drop me a note through Instagram. I’ll get back to you asap!

  • Can I order prints and albums from you?

I offer a range of heirloom print items in my online store that you are able to purchase, including prints in various sizes (framed or unframed), albums, canvases and more.  These are hand picked by myself to allow you to enjoy your beautiful images every day, rather than being stuck on a hard drive, and are printed through my professional print lab, to ensure the highest quality.

  • What happens after my photoshoot?

After your session I’ll go away and choose the very best photos and hand edit these.  You’ll then be sent a link for your private online gallery – usually within 3-6 weeks. From there, you can decide which collection you’d like to purchase.  Then it’s just a case of finalising your photo choice (this is often the trickiest part!).  If you have chosen a collection with complimentary print credit, you’ll have a selection of products available for you to purchase, including prints, albums and more.

  • What happens after I’ve booked my photoshoot?

Once you’ve confirmed your date with me you’ll have a little bit of paperwork sent through, including a questionnaire to help me get to know you all better before the session, and also a Client Guide.  This will give you a host of information about your shoot and hopefully answer all of your burning questions. Nearer to the date of your photoshoot, we’ll book a call (unless we’ve already spoken!) to chat about what you’re planning to wear, what happens on the day, and anything else you’ve been wondering about the session.  Then it’s just time to wait until the big day!

  • I live quite far away from Bishop’s Stortford – can I still have an in-home photoshoot?

Yes, absolutely!  Although I mainly cover Hertfordshire, Essex and parts of London, I am very happy to travel depending on my availability.  There will be a small charge made for locations more than 30 minutes drive from my home to cover my time and travel costs, but this will be discussed on our consultation call so you’re fully aware of any extras.

Branding FAQs

  • How far in advance should I book?

I recommend booking at least 4–6 weeks ahead if you’re planning a big refresh or launch. That gives us time to plan properly and make sure we get everything you need. That said – if you’re in a rush, just ask and I’ll see what’s possible.

  • What kind of images will I get?

A mix! Typically it’ll be portraits, behind-the-scenes moments, working shots, flat lays or product details (if relevant), and general lifestyle content you can use across platforms. We’ll chat beforehand to plan what you need most, and if there are specific images that are essential to you.

  • I work from home / don’t have a studio – where can we shoot?

There’s so many options! We can use your home or home office, hire a styled space, work outdoors, or find a location that fits your brand vibe. I’ll help with ideas that suit your business and make you feel comfortable.

There may be an additional cost if we choose to hire a space, but we can discuss that during the planning process.

  • What’s the difference between headshots and a brand shoot?

Headshots are great for a quick refresh – think LinkedIn, team profile pages or press releases. A brand shoot dives deeper, capturing your personality, workspace, process, and story. It’s perfect for websites, social content and helping people connect with what you do.

  • I’m not comfortable in front of the camera – is that a problem?

Not at all. Pretty much everyone I work with feels the same at first. My job is to help you feel at ease and guide you gently throughout. It’s never about being “perfect” – it’s about being real and relatable.

  • I don’t know what kind of video I need – can you help?

Yes! We’ll have a relaxed chat about your business, where you want to show up (website, social, email, etc.), and what you want your video to do. Then I’ll recommend the best type of video for your goals.

  • Do I need a script?

Not usually. While it’s great to know beforehand what you want to say, for most videos, I’ll guide you with simple prompts or questions. If you want to include a piece to camera, we can plan that together so it still feels natural and in your voice. Following a full script can sometimes sound a bit staged or wooden, so we’ll usually avoid learning something word-for-word.

  • What if I mess up or forget what to say?

Don’t worry – we can pause, reframe, or go for another take. Filming isn’t live, and I edit everything to create the most polished version while still keeping it “you.”

  • How long will it take to get my video?

From shoot day to delivery, most projects take around 3 weeks to get a first cut. Short-form content can sometimes be turned around faster, and I offer an expedited service for an additional fee for those urgent requests.

  • Can you create multiple videos from one shoot?

Yes! We can absolutely plan your shoot so we capture enough footage for several videos – ideal for creating a batch of social clips or repurposing content across platforms.

  • Where do we film?

That depends on the vibe and purpose of your video. I shoot in workspaces, home studios, shops, outdoor locations – wherever fits your brand best. I’ll help you choose the right spot during our planning process.

  • Do you offer both photography and video?

Yes, but not at the same time. I offer separate photography and videography sessions so you can get the best out of each. If you’re interested in both, we can plan two complementary shoots.

  • Can I use my video across different platforms?

Absolutely. I’ll deliver your video(s) in the best formats for your website, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube – wherever your audience finds you.

  • Do I need to have my hair and makeup professionally done before the session?

If having your hair and makeup done helps you feel more confident and comfortable in front of the camera, go for it. BUT (and this is a big but) now isn’t the time to experiment with new styles or colours. If you’re trying something different, a trial run is a great idea. The last thing you want is to invest in professional photos and not feel like yourself because of an unexpected makeup look or hairstyle.

  • Do you have a studio?

No, I’ve chosen not to have a studio as I prefer to photograph you where best represents your brand. Whether this is at your place of work or somewhere else, we’ll work together before the session to determine where would really reflect you and your brand.

  • How long will my headshot session be?

If you’ve booked an Express Headshot session or a slot at one of my Mini Headshot days, your shoot will be around 15-20 minutes – perfect to fit into a busy working day!

If your company has booked me for a Corporate session and you’re having a headshot taken, it all depends on what my brief is from your company. I’ll likely be taking photos of many of your colleagues as well, however I’ll discuss this with my contact at your company so you should be able to find out prior to the day of the shoot.

  • How quickly can I get booked in?

This entirely depends on the type of booking you’re looking for and my current schedule. I would recommend getting in touch as far in advance before the required date as possible, particularly if you’re looking for a weekend session.
